WELCOME

to the Friends of Lake Mattoon web site.

New To The Area ?? Been Here Long ?? Either Way, Lets Get Acquanted !

The "Friends of Lake Mattoon" is an organization made up of people who are interested in the preservation and improvement of the lake we love.

There is no central gathering place for us lake people other than different "clubs". This is a good opportunity to join with a neighbor, make new friends and at the same time do some good for our local environment.

We get together at least 4 times a year. We have potlucks. We have speakers with informational talks about bank-site erosion remedies. and we have fun ! Clean-up days for the roadside (Notice the signs on the marina road that says "ADOPTER BY FRIRNDS OF LAKE MATTOON"). We have funded fish stocking and have a co-operative relationship with the city of Mattoon.

One of the more important issues is that we have expanded our ecological effort to help form the "UPPER LITTLE WABASH ECOSYSTEM PARTNERSHIP". This partnership now encompasses representatives from 7 surrounding countries all concerned with the waterways that support our lake. And very importantly, it gives us access to grants from the Federal Government for maintenance and improvement.

We have included a membership application in "CONTACT US" and hope every family member will sign up. We will keep members informed when our meetings and recreational events are and if you aren't a full time resident we'll send you updates on what happened while you were away, if you would like.

COME JOIN US !!! Get acquainted, have a good time and help keep Lake Mattoon good for us and the next generation.
